From Prologue

This is a challenging book
It deals with philosophy and with science. For philosophers, it probably contains too much science, and for scientists too much philosophy – and for the average reader, too much of both. And yet, such a composition is necessary for a book having the ambitious goal of demonstrating the falsity of certain scientific theories and of a branch of philosophy.

This is a critical book
It is written in a scholarly manner, such that the views, propositions and conclusions which are critically reviewed are extensively cited, rather than merely interpreted. I also cited many views and positions supportive of the conclusions reached, although such instances are less numerous in comparison to opposing ones.

This is a detailed book.
It contains references to primary scientific literature, calculations, figures and formulas. They are kept at the minimum necessary to demonstrate a point, and they always represent a selection from a wider set of similar data. The data derive mostly from chemistry, biology and physics.

This is a consistent book.
The course of the leading ideas is kept steadily, and there are no reversals of position, or sharp twists. Once the truth of a conclusion is established, it is not subsequently questioned or negated. Some conclusions that are hinted at in early chapters are spelled out in full later on, for reasons that will become obvious to readers. Formal logic is honored throughout, and no sophistical trickery is used to hide undesirable conclusions or to reach desirable conclusions.

This is an orthodox book.
It does not represent a general attack on science, philosophy or religion. But it does attack scientific theories and philosophical positions which have become evidently false in view of scientific truths discovered by exact sciences. Science and philosophy will both become stronger, and continue to fulfill their roles better, after purging erroneous theories and philosophy.

This is a lengthy book.
Preparations for it and its writing took more than ten years, and although it is much more extensive than initially anticipated, many worthy topics are still left out. Its goals could be reached only by connecting together many pieces from exact sciences and philosophy, and that was feasible only in a work of this scale and magnitude.

This book promotes essentialist philosophy.
It is this philosophy that dominated Western thought for about two millennia, and within which exact sciences started their glorious development. Now exact sciences are returning the favor, not by demonstrating that essentialist philosophy is necessarily true, but by demonstrating that the opposite philosophy – process philosophy – is necessarily false.
